Most people seek out hypnosis to change their behaviour like stop smoking, gaining weight or the way they feel about something like anxiety, or recovering after a nasty breakup.

A quick search on Google will reveal thousands of ways for people to have their desired result.  Each method outside of hypnosis has it’s own benefits and drawbacks.

One of the drawbacks that most methods have in common is that they don’t deal with the psychological component of the problem, and they only deal with the symptoms of the problem.  This means that when people are back in the environment where they experience the problem, they end up relapsing and have the undesired behaviour because they haven’t replaced it with something positive.  There is a certain mindset that makes someone smoke, or they perceive some kind of benefit from it. As people have an unconscious benefit for the problem behaviour, it acts as a source of motivation for the problem, so people continue to re-experience the problem behaviour.   With hypnosis, we specifically look for this motivation and turn it into something useful to benefit your life.

Here’s an example of what happens when you change the motivation driving the behaviour.  It’s safe to say that if your house was burning down, most people would run and want to get out of the house as quickly as they can.

However, what would it take for someone to run back in there?  They would have to be crazy…right?

If you had a child, a loved one who was still asleep, or something you hold close to heart still inside that house you have an inherent motivation to do something.  The more motivation you have for something, the more likely you are to change your behaviour and actually do something about it.

When people attempt to change on their own, they miss what’s really driving their behaviour and this is why people fail.

When we create goals and have things that we want to strive towards, if a conscious goal conflicts with something in the unconscious mind such as a belief or the way we feel about something, the unconscious mind will ALWAYS win.  The unconscious mind regulates all the parts of our body we are not aware of, in particular our emotions and the way we respond to our environment and people.

Why Does Hypnosis Work?

Hypnosis works because we stop the issue at the source, in your mind so that you change the way you think.  When you change the way you think, you change the way you feel, and this is what allows you to change your behaviour.

Let’s take the example of someone who smokes. This smoker wants to quit because they realise the health benefits that come along with being healthy, however every time they stop for a while whenever they go out with friends, they seem to fall back into the habit. One of the reasons for this could be because their unconscious mind has linked the idea of being social and friendly, to smoking and having a good time with people.

What makes it even more difficult to quit with other methods is that don’t deal with situations like these, where stress and peer pressure occur unexpectedly. With Hypnosis, we would actually clean up associations like these so you will quit once and for all because we are dealing with the part of your mind where these ideas are stored.
